The Council provides opportunity for individuals or organizations to submit written comments concerning an institution’s qualifications for provisional or continued accreditation. The Council publishes notices in APMA News and on its website regarding its plans to conduct either a focused evaluation or a comprehensive evaluation of an institution that seeks provisional accreditation or continuation of accreditation. The notice indicates the deadline for receipt of third-party comments.
Invitation for Comments about Programs
CPME 330, Procedures for Approval of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Residencies, and CPME 830, Procedures for Approval of Podiatric Fellowships, include provisions for consideration of third-party comments. Third-party comments must address substantive matters relating to the quality of the program and CPME standards and requirements. Comments should be emailed to CPME Assistant Director Bertus Tempelhoff. Comments must be received 15 days prior to the program’s scheduled site visit date. All third-party comments must be signed. Comments will be forwarded to the evaluation team, and to the program director for response if appropriate, during the evaluation visit process.
The list identifying site visits scheduled for the Fall of 2025 will be updated by August 15.

New Residencies and Fellowships Eligible for On-Site Evaluation
The Residency Review Committee (RRC) considers the application for provisional accreditation by mail ballot, conference call, or at one of its semi-annual meetings. The RRC will consider a complete application within 60 calendar days of its receipt.
The RRC reviews the application to determine whether the new residency is eligible for on-site evaluation. In determining eligibility, the RRC will not consider a number of resident positions other than that for which the institution has applied. The RRC has the prerogative of taking no action on the application in order to request further information from the sponsoring institution and/or to discuss the application during a subsequent conference call or upcoming regularly-scheduled meeting.
When the RRC determines that a new residency is eligible for on-site evaluation, this status indicates that the institution appears to be developing a residency that has the potential for meeting the standards and requirements for accreditation by the Council on Podiatric Medical Education. Neither eligibility for on-site evaluation nor the conduct of an initial on-site evaluation ensures eventual accreditation.
